DEPUTY EXPLORER PROGRAM

The Marion County Sheriff’s Office Explorer Program Is Designed To Provide The Youth Of Our Community An Opportunity To Explore Law Enforcement As A Career.  Our Program Builds Upon The Motto “Learning Today, Leading Tomorrow” By Facilitating Life Skills Such As Communication, Decision Making And Problem Solving And Critical Thinking To Develop And Encourage Our Future Leaders.  In Addition, The Explorers Receive Training On Patrol Procedures, Report Writing, Domestic Violence, Florida Law And Arrest Procedures.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must Be Marion County Resident

  • Must Be Between Ages 14-21

  • Must Be Enrolled In School/ College

  • GPA Of At Least 2.0

  • Complete And Return The Above Application

  • Pass A Background Check

MEETINGS:

Explorers meet every Tuesday from 6pm-8pm.  The meetings are held at the Marion County Sheriff’s Office training facility located at 692 NW 30 Ave, Ocala, FL. 34475.

RIDE- ALONG:

Once the appropriate training standards have been met, Explores will have the opportunity to do ride-alongs. These are valuable experiences because it not only familiarizes you with procedures, equipment and forms, but it will also show you how our laws are enforced in real life. You will get to talk with patrol trained deputies about why they did what they did, so that when your turn to serve in law enforcement comes, you will understand the thought process behind the laws and actions we take to enforce them.
